Under Mama's Watchful Eye
Introducing - Under Mama’s Watchful Eye
15” x 30“- Acrylic Mixed Media on Canvas
So, I started this painting on Dec 18th as a paint pour using a mix of some left-over paints. While some aspects of the painting were cool, there were other parts that weren’t quite what I would have liked to see. So, with many hours and many layers I hand painted in details that pulled out aspects of what I saw within the painting trying to mimic the style of the cells that come from a paint pour. There were many times during this process that I wanted to give up and just start over with a new paint pour but instead I persisted and continued to add my own spin with the natural elements. And while part of me wants to continue with it, as of January 18th 2026, I’m calling this one done. For context this is what the original pour started with.
In this original I could see the faint outline of what looked like a dragon’s head with a little baby dragon sitting on her shoulder, looking at the mama dragon with adoration and mama keeping a watchful eye on her baby. I enhanced a lot of the natural colour that was hiding behind some of the pale pink which brought out a rainbow cascade. Which is fitting because isn’t that what mama’s do? They protect their little ones and turn the storms and rain of life into something beautiful and rainbow like. And while she looks all soft and pink her eyes tell another story, one that says don’t fuck with me or my baby or you’ll learn what it means to be a dragon lady.
